Quality And Safety Brings Leading Edge Surgical Services To The Community
When patients suffer significant illness or injury, often surgery is the most effective solution to their medical issues and presents the best chances for full recovery. At Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center (MHMC), management works closely with our clinical leaders and our Perioperative Services team to ensure that patients have access to quality surgical services and the safest, most advanced technology and treatments available. Recent equipment upgrades include advances in instrument sterilization and storage and uniformity of surgical instruments to eliminate errors. Investments in orthopedic equipment, such as new drills and video equipment necessary for total joint replacement and other specialized orthopedic surgeries, will improve surgical outcomes.
Perioperative Services consists of Same-Day Surgery (SDS), the Operating Room (OR), Endoscopy (Endo), the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Central Processing Departments (SPD). Patients requiring simple surgical procedures are often operated on and released the same day as part of the Same-Day Surgery program. In addition to the five major operating rooms, there is a Special Procedure Room for minor procedures and one Cystoscopy Room. Endoscopy has two newly renovated procedure suites, where minimally invasive procedures can be conducted with the assistance of certified endoscopic nurses. The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at MHMC consists of eight patient areas and a dedicated healthcare team that care for post-operative patients.
Elite Anesthesia, a local group of board-certified anesthesiologists, provides comprehensive anesthesia services for MHMC patients. This group of top-notch doctors contributes significantly to successful surgical outcomes, and they have extensive experience dealing with patients in all age groups and providing services for surgeries in all specialties.
Staff is an important ingredient to our advanced Perioperative Services. Pre-admission nurses schedule patients for blood work, X-Rays, and other testing as necessary. That nurse also addresses concerns patients have about pending procedure and offers any required patient education. Surgical patients with scheduled procedures are greeted in registration and assisted to the pre-op area. There, nurses assess patients, take vital signs and answer any remaining questions.
Once in the operating room, patients are taken care of by a team consisting of certified nurses, a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA), Certified Surgical Technicians, and our board-certified surgeons and anesthesiologists. MHMC Operating Room Call Team is prepared for emergency procedures 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
MHMC Central Sterile Processing Department utilizes the latest in sterilization technology and procedures to ensure that all medical/surgical supplies and equipment are cleaned, prepared, processed, stored, and issued for patient care. All Central Sterile Technicians are nationally certified in sterile processing, ensuring quality service and a safe healthcare environment for patients.
