Neurofeedback. What is it?
The future is now! Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center’s newly developed outpatient center, the Department for Neuroscience & Cognitive Rehabilitation, NCR, is offering a cutting-edge training program called neurofeedback. Amongst its diverse offerings, neurofeedback stands out for its exciting ability to retrain dysfunctional electroencephalograpy (EEG) patterns in the brain.
Neurofeedback, a powerful brain training tool, is a form of biofeedback for the brain. It is a completely painless & non-invasive procedure that improves brain function – it is like going to the gym for the brain!
In a comfortable setting, the training is carried out with the use of a few sensors placed on the head & a connection to a computer and television monitor. As you focus on the training your brain works out & improves its own regulation. New patterns are permanently learned over time, helping to alleviate a wide spectrum of neurological & psychological symptoms or disorders.
Neurofeedback has shown to be effective with various disorders & disabilities such as ADHD, issues related to aging (e.g., dementia or cognitive decline), traumatic brain injury and autism. Neurofeedback has even shown to be able to alleviate chronic headaches/migraines & anxiety.
