MHMC Hosts Annual Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce Basket Brigade
Chamber’s Contractor & Building Services Committee Program Provides Thanksgiving Food Baskets to Families in Need
More than 200 volunteers descended on Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center on Sunday, November 24 to assemble Thanksgiving food baskets for families in need throughout the region, as part of the Annual Basket Brigade sponsored by the Meadowlands Regional Chamber of Commerce Basket Brigade. The event, coordinated by the Chamber’s Contractor & Building Services Committee, utilizes the combination of donated food items and monetary donations to assemble the needed supplies for a Thanksgiving dinner.
"As one of the newest members of the Meadowlands Chamber, we were pleased to offer our facility for this worthy event as an extension of our commitment to serve our community," said Lynn McVey, Acting President and CEO of Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center. "Even though the day brought with it the first significant chill of the pending winter season, it was heartwarming to see all of the volunteers come together and assemble over 300 of these food baskets in such a short time. It was also great to see the string of vehicles lined up to deliver these baskets to the community. It’s rewarding to see that so many individuals gave a few hours of their lives to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of families in the region."
Each basket included a 10-pound turkey with roasting pan, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, juice boxes, tangerines, small amount of candy, and more. Support for the contents of the baskets come from corporate Chamber members, the public and regional business. Recipients of these baskets are identified from local governments and community assistance organizations, and delivery is made on an anonymous basis to all recipients.
