MHMC at Its Best
On September 18, 2011, the Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center (MHMC) participated in the Fourth Annual Cultural Health and Wellness Family Festival in North Bergen’s famous Schuetzen Park. The festival is one of the largest health events organized annually by Save Latin America Organization that is geared towards the Hispanic community.
A broad range of participants including clinics, hospitals, insurance companies, private health care professionals, food and beverage companies, financial institutions, foundations, as well as a variety of commercial vendors made this event a real success.
Thousands of health screenings such as sonograms, cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, body mass, dental check-ups and many more were provided free of charge. The festival participants were excited to receive educational and medical consultations as well as psychological counseling and a number of other medical tests.
MHMC participated actively in the event. We were represented by two very prominent doctors – Dr. Brendan Sullivan, representing our brand new Cardiology Department and Dr. Albert Akkerman from the Pain Management Department. Both doctors gave free consultations, which proved to be a huge success with the attending crowd. Dr. Sullivan also provided free blood pressure screenings. A number of people wanted to follow up with him on a regular basis.
MHMC had two booths at the festival and proudly represented itself, attracting visitors, health care professionals and other participants. Many professional contacts were established and a large number of new patients were found for follow-up.
We also gave a free tour of the hospital to those interested in seeing the facility. Two MHMC jitney buses took visitors to the hospital and back to the festival after the tour. The visitors were impressed with the NEW hospital and the NEW services, staff and changes, which were made by the new owners. At the end of the tour we raffled off two 19” flat-screen color TVs. Two lucky winners took home brand new TVs, but also great memories about our amazing hospital. We look forward to participating in this festival again next year and continue to serve our community proudly.
