Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center Hosts Its Annual 5K Run/Walk on September 29

Community Event to Draw Runners and Walkers from Throughout the Tri-State Benefitting the American Heart Association

On Sunday, September 29, runners and walkers from throughout the tri-state area will converge on Secaucus, NJ for the Third Annual Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center 5K Run/Walk, benefitting the American Heart Association and its ongoing mission of research and awareness of cardiovascular disease and stroke. The event will begin with registration and check-in at the hospital's campus at 55 Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus at 7:30 a.m., with the run/walk beginning at 9 a.m. Refreshments and awards will help finish the morning’s activities around 10 a.m. Online registration is already underway and same-day registration will be available.

"As the region's leading community hospital, we take the responsibility to keep our community healthy very seriously, and our annual 5K run/walk is a part of that commitment," says Lynn McVey, Acting President and Chief Executive Officer of Meadowlands Hospital. "Over the years, we’ve partnered with our friends from the American Heart Association on a number of occasions and we truly believe in the mission to help the medical community and the general public with best practices in the prevention, treatment, and research into the country’s leading cause of death and disability. We are looking forward to partnering with our neighbors and businesses throughout the region to make this our most successful event to date!"

The start/finish line for the event will be located at the hospital's driveway off Meadowlands Parkway. The 5K (about 3 mile) course will proceed out Meadowlands Parkway towards Harmon Meadows Plaza to the halfway point, where runners and walkers will head back towards the hospital via the same route. The course is USATF-certified and sanctioned and considered "fast and flat" for running enthusiasts. Water stations for all participants will be located at the haflway point of the race and at the start/finish line. Trophies will be awarded for the overall top three competitiors. Medals will be awarded for the top three finishers in the nine age divisions: 10 and under, 11-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79 and 80 or older.

Entry fees are $25 if pre-registered online before September 20. The registration increases to $30 after September 20 and on the day of the event. USATF-NJ members receive a $3 discount during the pre-registration period. Entry fees include an event t-shirt. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for business and commercial organizations, groups and individuals. Event sponsorships begin at a minimum of $500 for a Bronze Sponsorship, minimum of $1,000 for a Silver Sponsorship, and a minimum of $2,000 for a Gold Sponsorships. All sponsorships include corporate signage, free registrations for runners/walkers, and inclusion of logo/corporate name on the event t-shirt.
