Meadowlands Hospital hosts 5K Run/Walk

24 June 2012

Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center’s Foundation committee was hoping for good weather for their 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, June 24th, 2012. A few days before the event, the northern east coast of the United States experienced a heat wave to welcome in the summer. The committee waited with baited breath to finally hear that the heat would subside 36 hours before the big day!

Sunshine and cooler temperatures greeted the over 100 participants of the race! We nearly doubled the amount of registrations from last year! The Foundation was not only extremely appreciative of the donations and participation of the employees but also of the sponsorships from local organizations, businesses and vendors who supported the event. The day would not have gone smoothly without the assistance of our employees and volunteers, who gave of their own time to register racers, provide complimentary blood pressures, worked as time keepers at end of the race and manned refreshment tables.

First place winner Lehny Lopez of Elizabeth finished at 20:31.10 with Secaucus High School Track and Field participant Mark German coming in only 25 seconds after that! Meadowlands Hospital was represented by MRI Rehabilitation Aide Albert Araya by having an impressive 3rd place finish with a time of 21:24.10. First place female and 8th overall was Secaucus resident Amanda Prieto who crossed the line at 23:55.50.

A group picture followed awards distribution in overall and age group categories. All proceeds will benefit our patients who are underinsured or do not possess any type of medical insurance. The Foundation is looking forward in growing this special event every year!
